First couple of days

Sept 24, 2009. I spent the day with Reema and her parents. They took me to a deaf school where ACCF Australian Cervial Cancer Foundation had brought 14 high school girls from Australia to volunteer. The girls had raised $10,000 for the vaccines against cevical cancer . We got to see the girls students at the deaf school receiving the vaccines and had a tour at local hospital.

Sept 26, 2009. I went to see the Sleeping Goddess and saw the view of Kathmandu from Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park. I also ate momo at the Bakery Cafe.

I hope to post some picture along side of my blog entries soon~ I will write more in details. Sorry for a brief entry. ^^

A new life in KTM

I am finally using the internet! Hi Everyone I reached KTM. It was a long flight but I got here. I left on Sept 20th and got here on the 22nd. I went through New Delhi.

I had jet lag for the past day so I slept most of the time I was here. I am trying to stay awake.
I woke up yesterday to call my parents. Today I woke up to use the internet cafe. It's very cheap to call to the USA and use the internet cafe.

I will post pictures later when I'm using a home computer.

I will not leave for the village until Sept9 or 10th. I will keep you posted. Until then I'll visit some friends and other people who are working in the education field.

Just letting everyone know I'm okay! Miss you a lot! ^^

Oh yeah when I say I'm Korean- American the first thing everyone asks me if i like Korean Drama! hahaha. Even in Nepal Korean Dramas are popular!

All about Family

This week I moved my stuff to my hometown Lititz, PA and spent time with my family. My mom had a family gathering at our home.

My father is playing the singing bowl!
He is amazed about the sound and the vibration.

It was great to see my relatives and family friends before I left for my trip. I haven't seen many of my family since moving to NYC. Most of my family are from Pennsylvania. I will miss my parents!

The singing bowl experience

Singing bowls (also known as 'Himalayan bowls' or 'rin' or suzu gongs in Japan) are a type of bell, specifically classified as a standing bell. Rather than hanging inverted or attached to a handle, standing bells sit with the bottom surface resting. The sides and rim of singing bowls vibrate to produce sound. Singing bowls were traditionally used throughout Asia as part of Bön and TantricBuddhist sadhana. Today they are employed worldwide both within and without these spiritual traditions, for meditation, trance-induction,relaxation, healthcare, personal well-being and religious practice.Singing bowls were historically made in Tibet, Nepal, India[1], Bhutan, China, Japan and Korea. Today they are made in Nepal, India, Japan and Korea. The best known type are from the Himalayan region and are often called "Tibetan singing bowls.
(technical correction in the picture, I should be holding the bowl on the FLAT part of my palm.)

My friend Chhoden's family store is called Tibetan Himalayan and located on the upper west side 80th street between Broadway and Amsterdam. I had taken Yub (guy in the picture with me) to experience the singing bowl. I love the sound of the bowl. It's relaxing and calming to my mind. I love taking people to this store because the environment. When you enter immediately you can see the bright orange and red colors and hear the soft meditation music in the back ground. There's a lot of cool things to look at. Don't be afraid to ask questions. If your looking for a unique gift for someone this is a great place for it.
