Opening the Books and Reading! With the help from Manisha, we talked to the carpenter who is building the shelves for the classroom library project. We set for the design, cost and time. They will be built before the new session at the end of April. Before the new school year starts we will organize and set up the classroom library! I will help to make posters and color code the books.

I had seen my students from the beginning, middle and the end of the school year. It is amazing the progress they had made! I can see how much they worked and so did Manisha! Now it's their final exams.
I got off the plane and ate breakfast. I wanted to see my students. I'm ready for my 30 min walk to the school. Reunion with my students~
Finally going to Phaplu after two days of cancellations. My flight was at 7 am so I had to be at the airport at 6am! It's only 30min airplane ride. I was surprise the cost of shipping of the books was not too much. But I had to send the last two boxes on the next flight to Phaplu.

Last days with SIS and other great memories

SIS Library committee mini field trip to ETK Book Store! It took us an hour and half to pick out three books per class starting with class 4-10.

SIS Library Committee Fundraiser, we sold a cd which had pictures of different events that I attended with the students. We raised 2,000 rupees.

Holi- festival of colors. in other words be careful when walking outside kids and other people throw water balloon at you. Water balloon fight is allowed. People color their hair and put colors on each other.

SIS had their first Prom. The theme was masquerade. We had dance contests such as the paper and balloon dance. They even had Prom King and Prom Queen. It was a lot of fun with my students~

I had my own farewell from my class 3. I received many cards and gifts from my students~ I didn't except it!
Class 10 Farewell~
The class 9 presented the class 10 with their final farewell with dancing, singing and a short play. This reminded me of my last days as a senior at Lindenhall. We had a tradition to pass the torch (lantern) with the 11th grade the night before graduation.

SIS's annual concert for the parents and friends had dancing, singing and a play. This was UKG performing Red Rodolph the Red nose Reindeer.

Happy Lhosar

Happy Lhosar!! Lhosar is the new years celebration for Tibetans and Sherpas. On this day Sherpas start by going to the eldest family's house. They must bring some food or drinks. At the house we were served salt tea, special snacks and food.

Mountain Biking

I went with a friend to go mountain biking around the northern part of the Kathmandu Valley. As a group we went around 9am and came back around 1pm. On the way we stopped twice to get some snacks. The view, got a little muddy and got to know other foreigners. It was a good time!

At the beginning of the ride it was foggy then it cleared up.
I really enjoyed being in the fresh air~It was nice to see something green~

Book shopping and library days

I went book shopping with a few friends. We bought around 100 books, some games, and charts.
This trip was to get some Nepali books. We got more teacher reference books for art and math classes.
We got some great charts for each of the five class rooms.

now at my current volunteer school...This is SIS's library. It is in an attic.

The school can't afford a full time librarian. It is hard to keep track of books. So I was thinking what is the next best thing. I asked the headmaster for permission to clean up the library with some students. I hope to form a committee who can manage the books but first we are cleaning and organizing the books.
Our first step as a group is to asset what the library has. Every morning one hour before school starts (at 9) we go upstairs to clean. In their free periods they also come up to work more.
They are working very hard! I hope we can form a student run library system.The students are scrubbing the shelves.
